Mozilla Firefox is a free and open source web browser descended from the Mozilla Application Suite and managed by Mozilla Corporation. A Net Applications statistic put Firefox at 24.59% of the recorded usage share of web browsers as of April 2010, making it the second most popular browser in terms of current use worldwide after Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Other sources put Firefox's usage share between 20% and 32%. To display web pages, Firefox uses the Gecko layout engine, which implements most current web standards in addition to several features which are intended to anticipate likely additions to the standards. Latest Firefox features include tabbed browsing, spell checking, incremental find, live bookmarking, a download manager, private browsing, location-aware browsing (also known as "geolocation") based exclusively on a Google service and an integrated search system that uses Google by default in most localizations. Functions can be added through add-ons, created by third-party developers, of which there is a wide selection, a feature that has attracted many of Firefox's users. Firefox runs on various versions of GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows and many other Unix-like operating systems. Its current stable release is version 3.6.3, released on April 1, 2010. Firefox's source code is free software, released under a tri-license GNU GPL/GNU LGPL/MPL. From Wikipedia under the

Q. I just read someone's answer that said that Mozilla Firefox is not as good with security issues on the computer. He said the person should delete it. Is this true, are you more susceptible to viruses or spyware or other things with Mozilla? Is IE better? Asked by ACCMOM - Thu Oct 11 16:31:43 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Under my experience with Firefox, it's very unlikely to get jammed with ads, pop ups and spyware/adware. Still, no web browser can protect you from viruses and other harmful stuff, so get a firewall to protect yourself. Answered by Daniel K - Thu Oct 11 16:39:09 2007 Mozilla firefox - what else do I need to install please for safety and security? Q. Hello i have just installed mozilla firefox as i just couldnt view anything in my ebay account or messages or anything whilst using avg8 and also had spybot and zone alarm but now just have mozilla firefox installed and it seems to have done the trick BUT do i need to have anything else installed alongside this mozilla to ensure security etc??? Please dont answer all techie as i am rubbish!!! Much appreciated! Asked by mollygrub1 - Sat Aug 23 06:43:20 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I think you've got the basics covered; sometimes the Adblock plugin can make Firefox run a little slow so watch out for that; Noscript can be extremely interventionist for the novice so see how you go if you use it. Zonealarm, AVG and Spybot work well together - it's a balance between adequate security and not bogging your system down. Keep windows up to date, don't open emails with attachments unless you are sure of the source (!) and even then it can be risky. If you stay away from dodgy sites (AVG includes linkscanner) and don't download from torrents you will be reasonably safe. You could add Spywareblaster for added security; it's not a scanner but rather acts in the background protecting you whilst online; just update and enable… [cont.] Answered by zoomjet - Sat Aug 23 07:10:57 2008 Is Mozilla Firefox the best internet browser available?
